The busy week continues for the Vancouver Canucks.

After hiring Manny Malhotra on Monday, followed by Ryan Johnson’s first player signing, Ilya Safonov, on Tuesday, there’s now reportedly a new addition to the front office.

The Canucks have hired player agent Daren Hermiston, according to CHEK’s Rick Dhaliwal. Hart Levine of PuckPedia is reporting that Hermiston will work in a player development role.

“Something along the lines of director of player development and player performance,” Dhaliwal added.

The Canucks confirmed these reports on Friday, officially announcing that Hermison had joined the organization.

ā€œDaren brings a wealth of hockey knowledge to our group, from so many different parts of the game,ā€ Johnson said.

ā€œNot only were we impressed by his recruiting skills from being a player agent, but also his ability and understanding of how to help develop players who have different skillsets and abilities. He has also been involved in several sports business ventures as well, things that should translate well into his new role with the team.”

Hermiston currently has six clients, according to PuckPedia. One of those clients is Canucks winger Arshdeep Bains.

Bains actually switched agents back in 2024 during the last year of his entry-level contract, leaving Harkie Singh of Live Sports & Entertainment to work with Hermiston.

While Hermiston’s NHL client list is relatively small, he works for the third-largest agency in hockey, according to PuckPedia.

The Kamloops, B.C. native is part of The Team, which was previously known as Wasserman Hockey until their rebranding back in March. Their NHL clients are headlined by Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews. Current Canucks players, Victor Mancini and Zeev Buium, are also clients of the agency.

According to Elite Prospects, the 39-year-old Hermiston is a former goalie, suiting up with the BCHL’s Vernon Vipers in 2005-06.

Hermiston’s LinkedIn page states that he has worked as a player agent since 2009 for Point West Sports and Entertainment Inc., which was based out of South Surrey. The company was acquired by Wasserman Hockey back in 2021.
