Canucks grab Flyers tough guy Tom Sestito

Dec 19 2017, 3:09 pm

The Vancouver Canucks have claimed Tom Sestito off the waiver wire, who was in the midst of being sent down by the Philadelphia Flyers to their farm affiliate in Adirondack, NY.

The forward brings a dominant presence of grit with his 6’5″, 230lb frame. The Canucks know what they’re getting – a fighter, a hitter and an all around enforcer, as he’s amassed 867 PIM in 180 games in the AHL. With the departure of Aaron Volpatti on Thursday, the Canucks have successfully filled the 13th-forward role, and have now an asset they can play sporadically when the team needs an extra physical presence.

Don’t expect Sestito to bring a mix of skill to the ice like tough guys Zack Kassian and Dale Weise do, but do expect less teams to take run at the team’s crop of skilled forwards.
