It sounds like the Vancouver Canucks are inching slowly toward getting Filip Chytil back into action.
The 26-year-old Czech did not get off to the start that he or the Canucks wanted this season. Chytil appeared in just six games to start the year, before suffering an injury on a controversial hit from Washington Capitals power forward Tom Wilson in mid-October.
Chytil has missed a total of 14 games due to the presumed concussion and is not on the team’s current road trip.
Not much has been reported on how the centreman has been progressing, but GM Patrik Allvin finally provided some clarity on the recovery process. While a timeline for his return has not been announced, there are some positive developments to note about Chytil’s condition.
“He’s been in Vancouver the whole time, and he’s actually skating,” Allvin said. “He’s trending and feeling better. He hasn’t been anywhere else. He’s around the players when we’re in Vancouver.”
"Very detailed defensively and a penalty-killer. We're very pleased David chose to come to Vancouver."

There was some concern that this most recent injury, presumed to be a concussion, could have some wider effects on Chytil’s career. This is a player who has battled multiple concussions over the course of his short time in the NHL. Some were wondering if Chytil could potentially be facing an early retirement as a result. Currently, it does not appear that this is where the situation is trending.
Vancouver is also awaiting the return of another injured centreman in Teddy Blueger, who has been out since mid-October with a lower-body injury. Allvin provided some updates on his condition as well.
“Teddy is back in Vancouver and skating. I would at this point still would have him week-to-week,” Allvin said. “He’s getting closer… I think it’s too early to know if he’s gonna participate in the practice on Wednesday or not.”
Allvin was also asked about the status of goaltender Thatcher Demko, to which he pinned a “week-to-week” timetable on his return.
The Canucks are among the most injury-riddled teams in the entire NHL, and while Chytil and Blueger are progressing, it doesn’t appear either one is on the verge of returning just yet.
