Brendan Gallagher has had a busy summer.

After speculation in the spring about his future, Gallagher ended up being traded to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for future considerations. The Montreal Canadiens retained half of his salary in the process.

As he gets set to represent his hometown team, Gallagher will have another family member to watch him play.

Gallagher and his wife, Emma, recently announced that they’ve welcomed another baby girl into the world.

The name of the couple’s newest child, Ella, could be viewed as a tribute to Gallagher’s late mother, Della, who passed away last March after a battle with brain cancer. The 34-year-old will wear No. 7 with the Canucks, which was his mother’s favourite number.

Gallagher’s first daughter, Everly, was born in February 2025. Emma and Brendan got married in July 2024.

The couple was congratulated by fans in both markets on social media, with many wives and girlfriends of Canadiens players also reaching out.

“Most beautiful little girls inside and out,” Josh Anderson’s wife, Paola, wrote on Instagram.

Aside from his wife and two children, Gallagher will have more direct family close by to cheer him on in Vancouver, including his dad, Ian, who’s listed as president of the Delta Hockey Academy. Brendan has three siblings as well.

Although Gallagher usually spends his offseasons training in Vancouver, he actually spent this summer preparing in Montreal, as he waited for his wife to give birth.

It’s not much longer now until Gallagher officially hits the ice in Canucks colours. Fans will get their first look at him during training camp, which begins on Sept. 17 in Penticton. The regular season gets going soon after that, with the Canucks first contest taking place against the Edmonton Oilers on Sept. 29.
