This game doesn’t mean shit. The Vancouver Canucks proved in the second half of the game they are much better than the Calgary Flames. The first half was where they lost the game, however. This was largely due to Vigneault not fully preparing the Nucks to play.
Team chemistry was also nonexistent in the first period, especially when some players on the new lines hadn’t played together as a unit before. I’m especially talking about the Kesler line. But once Shirokov found his legs in the third period, we saw flashes of what could be. Samuelsson was excellent, like he was still playing in the Detroit Red Wings system.
It was also great to see the defence jumping up into the play and creating so many offensive chances from the point. Edler tested his wicked shot several times.
Give Kipper credit for stealing this one for the Flames in the third period. But, we saw previews of what the Canucks will be this season and Kipper better watch out next time.
