Vancouver Canucks have multiple teams with Evander Kane trade interest: report

The Evander Kane era seems to be coming to an end for the Vancouver Canucks.

Things have not gone as expected since the Canucks acquired Kane from the Edmonton Oilers. The hope was that the veteran forward would add a bit of scoring and physicality to the forward group, but that hasn’t materialized.

Instead, the 34-year-old pending UFA has posted some of the worst results of his NHL career with nine goals and 25 points through 56. All while carrying a hefty $5.125 million cap hit. It was a gamble to trade for Kane, and now Canucks GM Patrik Allvin appears to be looking to move on.

Kane’s agent, Dan Milstein, was given permission to help facilitate a trade for the Canucks forward last month.

Quinn Hughes and Kiefer Sherwood have already been traded out of Vancouver, and rumour has it that Elias Pettersson could be next. With the Canucks in the midst of a rebuild, getting whatever they can for Kane seems like the best idea.

The good news is that there are multiple teams reportedly showing interest in trading for the Vancouver native.

“There’s interest in Evander Kane,” reported Rick Dhaliwal on Tuesday’s edition of Donnie and Dhali. “I’m told there are teams like Colorado and Tampa Bay poking around… The Avalanche would need the Canucks to retain.

“The Kings lost Kevin Fiala, are they now into Kane more?”

Dhaliwal went on to say that Kane’s playoff experience and pedigree as a tough-to-play-against forward could be enticing to teams. A potential return of a second-round pick was thrown around, but the hosts agreed that the Canucks should probably be happy with re-couping the fourth-round pick they lost when they acquired Kane.

The Kings are an interesting potential trade partner for Kane. They’ve also been linked to Elias Pettersson recently, but there is a connection between Kane and L.A. GM Ken Holland, who signed and extended him during their time with the Oilers.

Vancouver is sitting pretty in last place in the entire NHL and is poised to be one of the more active sellers at next month’s deadline. There is no doubt that things will start to pick up as the deadline approaches.

The NHL trade freeze is set to lift at 8:59 p.m. PST this Sunday.
