Say goodbye to Canucks Army.
In name, anyway.
The popular local hockey publication, which has risen to prominence in the past 15 years, announced a name change on Wednesday. It’ll be known as “Daily Faceoff Vancouver,” leveraging its national brand.
Similarly, other Nation Network brands in Edmonton, Calgary, and Toronto are also getting name changes.
“This change is a bit bittersweet,” Canucks Army’s David Quadrelli admitted.
Social media accounts have already made the switch, but the new websites won’t launch until January.
“Over the next few months, you will see various changes to the branding on CanucksArmy.com, culminating in the eventual full transition to Daily Faceoff Vancouver in January 2027,” said Quadrelli, who is both the managing editor of Canucks Army and editor-in-chief of The Nation Network.
The change should alleviate potential issues the website may have had by incorporating the word “Canucks,” which is trademarked, into its name. The Canucks had expressed concern over the website’s name as far back as a decade ago.
In recent years, Canucks Army added a disclaimer at the top of its website noting, “CanucksArmy has no direct affiliation to the Vancouver Canucks, Canucks Sports & Entertainment, NHL, or NHLPA.” Similar disclaimers are found on Oilers Nation, Flames Nation, and The Leafs Nation.
“We are very excited about this next chapter because of what it unlocks for our business,” said The Nation Network president Jay Downton.
“By taking this step, we will be able to unlock more content for our fans, provide greater opportunities for our teammates, and ultimately drive the next step for TNN and Daily Faceoff as a hockey platform. This evolution to our hockey sites will help us unlock stronger connections to both the teams and the league, and we look forward to continuing to empower our trusted teams to create high-quality local content for Canucks fans.”
