Five star Cancun resort returns to Vancouver to hire again

From December 13 to 15, Vancouver will once again host one of Canada’s largest luxury resort hiring fairs.

Fidelis Careers, the company that staffs five star resorts: The Grand Mayan, Mayan Palace and Grand Luxxe, visited Vancouver in September of this year looking for sales and marketing professionals to work at their resorts. The result was an overflow of support. People from across the Lower Mainland poured into the career fair, resumes in hand, hoping to get a chance to live and work in paradise.

“We’ve always loved Vancouver, many of the people who have been with us the longest originally came from there, but we were blown away at our last visit,” said hiring manager Douglas Saunders. “When we visited last time, we simply weren’t able to offer jobs to all of the outstanding people we wanted to hire.”

The Cancun luxury resort industry is growing quickly, and many employers are having difficulty keeping up with the staffing demands. With so many resorts in such a small area, local talent is limited, so employers are having to look elsewhere to find the best people to work at their properties and the best are creating high-income potential for their staff in order to retain great people.

What appears to be a challenge for the employers seems to be an opportunity for the people of Vancouver which, according to some resort owners, is home to some of the world’s best sales and marketing talent.

In recent years, career fairs for resorts across Mexico have appeared in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and even London, England. The challenge is in finding people with real-world customer service experience, who are eager and willing to try working in a tropical environment.

To make the transition as easy as possible for people who are hired, Fidelis Careers offers attractive recruitment packages to successful applicants that include free flights, a place to stay for three months and daily meals at the resorts.

Those perks, along with the prospect of working just steps away from world class beaches and year-round summer, are among the reasons that the lobby of the Hotel Georgia was filled with applicants in September. This time, the location has been moved across the street to the a larger venue make room for the anticipated numbers.

Fidelis will be hiring for Sales, Marketing and Customer Service roles at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver from December 13 – 15.
