The Canadian women’s soccer team won its opening game at the Olympic games with a 2-1 win over Argentina. Defender Candace Chapman scored the opening goal of the tournament for the Canucks with a beautiful strike into the bottom right hand corner off a corner in the 27th minute. In the second half former UCLA Bruin Kara Lang notched a goal with a header off a free kick in the 72nd minute of the game. Argentina responded with a late goal in the 85th minute but it was little too late as the Canadians hung on to the lead for the win. Other scores in yesterday`s tilt were China 2-1 over Sweden, Germany ties Brazil 0-0, North Korea wins 1-0 over Nigeria, the US lose to Norway 2-0, and Japan ties New Zealand 2-2
