The last time the Canadian dollar was worth that much was April of 2000.

Crude oil, however, saw a slight appreciation and is up to $31.20 a barrel, a 2.3 per cent increase.

The decline of the loonie will continue through the year. A top financial analyst recently predicted the Canadian dollar will hit an all-time low of 59 cents this year. The lowest the dollar has ever been is 62 cents U.S. back in 2002.

Many aspects of the lives of Canadians will be affected by the low dollar, especially when it comes to consumer goods imported from the states such as fruit and vegetables.
