Virtue and Moir win Olympic ice dance GOLD with world record performance

In what is expected to be their final Olympic Games, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir needed the skate of their lives.
As the last skaters in the ice dance competition, they needed to beat a world record score (205.28) put up by France’s Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron.
They did it.
With all of Canada holding its collective breath, the best ice dancers of their generation came up with their best skate yet. On the world’s biggest stage, they performed a flawless routine to set a new world record score (206.07) of their own, winning gold.
‘Roxanne,’ their Moulin Rouge inspired routine, clearly impressed the judges. And why wouldn’t it?

“These are moments we’ll never forget,” said Moir in an interview with CBC television. “It’s just such an honour and a privilege to be part of a Canadian Olympic team. These are special moments in our lives.”
“It’s a nice end to our Olympic career,” added Virtue. “I can’t help but think about the 20 years we’ve spent working for this moment.”
The most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history, this is the fifth medal of the illustrious careers of Virtue and Moir. They won gold in ice dance at Vancouver 2010 and in the team event in PyeongChang. They also took home a pair of silver medals at Sochi 2014.

Papadakis and Cizeron will take home silver, while USA’s Maia and Alex Shibutani won bronze.
