The internet is ablaze after a Calgarian spotted an unconventional take on the Canadian flag in Alberta.
A Reddit post featuring a photo of the flag shows it hanging from an apartment balcony, reportedly in central Calgary.
While it has the shape of a typical Canadian flag, its familiar red and white have been replaced with a blue maple leaf with white stars, and the ends display 13 red and white stripes.
A sun-faded standard Canadian flag appears wrapped up on the opposite end of the balcony.

Canadians’ view of its southern neighbours has soured since U.S. President Donald Trump launched a trade war and repeatedly suggested Canada could become the 51st state. Many have cancelled their trips, and a made-in-Canada campaign has taken off, pushing Canadian-made goods over American alternatives.
However, while some Albertans say they’re more open to closer ties with the U.S., most support Canadian sovereignty and want the country to stand up to the Trump administration.
The online reaction to the flag was harsh, with strong language from over 1,000 commenters.
“I just threw up in my mouth a little from seeing that flag,” one user said.
Another had strong feelings about the flag: “I’d be willing to petition the Alberta government to buy these f*ckers all tickets for America and send them across the border. If you hate our country so much, stop f*cking living in it.”
“This is why we have bylaws; I have never seen the Canadian flag disrespected more,” a commenter wrote.
An online petition on Change.org calling to block U.S. President Donald Trump from attending the upcoming G7 Summit in the Alberta Rockies has also made waves online recently, gaining over 53,000 signatures in just over a month.
