There arguably couldn’t have been a bigger loss to Canada’s women’s ice hockey roster.

And, with an elimination game coming up next, Canada could really use injured star Marie-Philip Poulin.

Thankfully, on Friday, they got a good news update.

Poulin was a full practice participant for Canada on Friday ahead of their elimination game against Germany.

The 34-year-old Olympian revealed that she has been dealing with a knee injury that she suffered in Canada’s 5-0 win over Czechia.

“It’s part of the game,” she said after practice. “Unfortunately, it kind of grabbed my knee a little bit there, a little tweak.

“It did hurt, it still hurts, but it’s part of it.”

At practice on Friday, Poulin re-took her spot back up on Canada’s top line, according to TSN’s Claire Hanna.

After practice, Poulin was asked if she thought her Olympics might be over.

ā€œYou don’t want to think that way,” she told Hanna. I’d be lying if I didn’t think that…I think with the people I have around me kind of put things in perspective, go one day at a time and go from there.ā€

Poulin credited the Canadian medical staff for trying to get her back into action.

“That’s why we have a team here. Unbelievable physio and docs have been helping me. doing one day at a time and happy with where I’m at here.”

Although she took a step in the right direction on Friday, video from practice did still show Poulin favouring her leg, lifting it up off the ice in between drills.

Canada really missed Poulin’s presence during their 5-0 loss at the hands of the United States. They were able to bounce back on Thursday with a 5-0 win over Finland.

Poulin wouldn’t say whether she would return on Saturday or not, just that she’ll be grateful for the opportunity if it arises.

“It puts things in perspective,” she said. “Obviously, when you get back on the ice with that team, it’s very special.”
