Canada has USA's Olympic golden goal puck and Jack Hughes is livid

Jack Hughes wants his puck back.

The 24-year-old scored one of the biggest goals in U.S. hockey history less than a month ago, putting home the overtime winner versus Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The goal captured the first gold medal for the U.S. men’s hockey team in 46 years.

“It’s not about me. I’m so happy for this group, I’m so happy that we could win. I’m so happy that USA hockey is a gold medalist,” Hughes said just moments after the massive goal.

Fast forward to where we are now, the young New Jersey Devils star forward isn’t nearly as happy with how things have transpired since his golden goal.

While undoubtedly thrilled to be ingrained in history, Hughes is growing increasingly agitated that the puck isn’t in his possession. Instead, it’s currently on display in Toronto at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

“That’s bullsh*t that the Hockey Hall of Fame has it, in my opinion,” Hughes said to ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski. “Why would they have that puck?”

The puck is currently sitting in a display that includes a signed Brady Tkachuk stick and a Hilary Knight Team USA jersey, along with several other items.

Hughes, who also voiced frustration over Megan Keller not having her golden goal puck, which also came against the Canadians, made it clear he doesn’t want the puck back for himself. Instead, he has been hoping to gift it to his dad, who he described as a “monster collector.”

“I know he would have a special place for it,” Hughes said.

Hughes also mentioned that he is going to reach out to the Hockey Hall of Fame once he has more time in order to try and get it back. Whether or not he’s successful in that attempt remains to be seen.

The last time we saw a golden goal on the Olympic stage featuring NHLers came back in 2010 when Sidney Crosby scored to give Canada the win over the U.S. That puck continues to be on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
