Canada Place is proud to host the nation’s largest birthday celebration outside of Ottawa. This year, an estimated 250,000 people will celebrate Canada’s 146th birthday at the 26th Annual Canada Day at Canada Place presented by Coast Capital Savings.

This year’s exciting event on July 1, 2013 will feature a full day of FREE family fun including: engaging exhibits, interactive displays, dance, food and will showcase some of Canada’s best musical talent. Wear your Canada apparel, or anything red and white, and bring your Canada flags – with pride!

Canada Day at Canada Place

  • 10 am to 6 pm: Waterfront Festival (at Canada Place, Canada Place Way, Jack Poole Plaza, and the Vancouver Convention Centre)
  • 7 pm to 8 pm: Canada Day Parade (along West Georgia and Burrard Streets near Canada Place)
  • 10:30 pm to 11 pm: Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show, presented by Port Metro Vancouver (two barges: (1) Downtown Vancouver Coal Harbour and (2) West Vancouver near Dundarave)

“Our Government is proud to support Canada Day at Canada Place,” said the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, and Minister Responsible for British Columbia. “Each year, hundreds of thousands of British Columbians head to Canada Place to recognize and celebrate Canada’s outstanding persons, places and events. I am sure that this year’s celebration will be another excellent opportunity to show our pride and celebrate the many things that make Canada the united, strong and free country we know today.”

This year, we are excited to announce that Vancity Buzz is an Official Media Partner of Canada Day at Canada Place. The festivities will showcase more than 20 musical acts on three stages from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Juno Award-winning artist Bif Naked and local sensation, The Boom Booms, will headline the event. The impressive line-up of Canadian performers will also include:

  • Ache Brasil
  • SideOne Band
  • YUCA

Audiences will also enjoy a wide variety of children’s music, country, folk, rock, gospel, taiko drumming, bhangra, jazz, latin rhythms, Aboriginal hoop dancing and world rock.

New activities for the 2013 Canada Day at Canada Place include:

  • the Great Canadian Invention Zone
  • the Port Metro Vancouver Zone
  • the Extreme Canada Zone

The day-long festivities will conclude with the popular Canada Day Parade beginning at 7 p.m. starting at Georgia and Broughton, travelling east to Burrard and ending at Burrard and Pender. Then finishing the day is the awe-inspiring Canada Day Fireworks Show at 10:30 p.m., presented by Port Metro Vancouver, with the help of Seaspan, City of Vancouver, Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, District of West Vancouver, Shaw, Vancity Buzz, Classic Rock 101 and CHMB AM 1320.

We’re proud to partner with the Canadian Forces to bring you incredible displays and exhibits from our Navy, Army and Air Force – our heroes! Stroll through engaging displays, use a metal detector, take a free tour of the Royal Canadian Navy Orcas in Harbour Green Park, and learn from members of our Forces.

Great Canadian Invention Zone

Highlighting our greatest inventions with everything from the telephone and newsprint to the BlackBerry and Basketball, this gallery experience will provide you with a unique and fun perspective of our country’s most recognizable inventions. Create your own crafts or play an activity inspired by great Canadian inventions.

Harbour Green Park

Location: Harbour Green Park, at the foot of Bute Street

Located along the seawall at the foot of Bute Street, this rolling grassy area is the perfect place to take in the view and enjoy a variety of family activities and attractions, including: Free face painting, bouncy castles, a water park, hula hoop and juggling classes, do-it-yourself projects from the Vancouver Art Gallery, Science World shows and Canada’s newest hobby, slack lining. (Professional stunt slacklining demonstrations from 11 am to 5:30 pm)

Extreme Canada Zone
Time: 11am-4:30pm
Location: Canada Place Way and Vancouver Convention Centre East Plaza, 11am-4:30pm

Watch BMX bikers, trial riders and skateboarders bring our Canada Day celebration to the next level. These extreme sports athletes will take you on an exciting ride high into the sky.

Download the “PortMetroVan” app in the Apple or Google app stores. Select the Canada Day Quiz and complete the questions. You’ll have to explore the entire Canada Day event site find the correct answers. Once you are done submit your email via the app to be entered to win. A two hour harbor tour of the Burrard Inlet that includes lunch on board Port Metro Vancouver’s working harbour patrol vessel, Takaya, for four guests and, an overnight stay at the Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel. The 5th Annual Canada Day Parade starts at the corner of Georgia and Broughton Streets. This free community event features more than 60 dynamic entries and recognizes diversity, multiculturalism, freedom and the special bond that connects all Canadians. Look for the Vancouver Canucks “Fin”, the BC Lions, our friends from Hawaiian Punch, and more. Parade begins at Georgia & Broughton Streets. Heads east to Burrard Street, proceeding north down Burrard Street with dispersal at West Pender Street.

CANADA DAY BURRARD INLET FIREWORKS SHOW, presented by Port Metro Vancouver

A Multi-Community Fireworks Event beginning at 10:30pm
Vancouver’s only two-barge simultaneous pyrotechnic extravaganza is back and better than ever. Watch as the sky lights up in celebration of our nation’s birthday. This year the barge in Burrard Inlet will be moved further north-west, viewable from numerous locations including Harbour Green Park, Coal Harbour sea wall, Stanley Park, West Vancouver and North Vancouver. Simulcast will be provided by Classic Rock 101 and on the Port Metro Vancouver App. For more information visit

Fireworks Viewing Zone (8:30pm – 11pm)
Support the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Society and save your spot in a reserved area at Canada Place with unobstructed views of the fireworks and easy access to washrooms. Come and join us for a Canada Day special behind the scenes look at FlyOver Canada. Ride the ride, hear stories from the creative team, enjoy a Vera’s burger and drink in our Hangar and view the fireworks from our Flight Deck.
