Canada Day 2012 in Vancouver

Canada Day at Canada Place will host the largest birthday party outside of Ottawa in celebration of the country’s 145th birthday on July 1st, 2012.  The event will be 13 hours of FREE family fun and include music, fireworks and a parade.

Some of the highlights:

Canada Day Featured Performances – Headline performance by Spirit of the West, and music by the Dal Richards Orchestra, Alex Cuba, Dr. Strangelove and more than 25 music and dance acts on three stages.

Northwest Territories Dome – Visit the 65 foot tall geodesic dome and experience a year in the spectacular Northwest Territories.

Canuck Road (Canada Place Way) – Catch the West Coast Lumberjack Show, take a photo with the giant beavers from the 2010 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony, play some pick up hockey, or enjoy delicious Canadian inspired cuisine.

The Penny Party – Collect your pennies! Guests are encouraged to bring their soon-to-be discontinued pennies to help support local and national charities.

Canada Day Citizenship Ceremony – Jack Poole Plaza will be the site of the ever-popular citizenship ceremony, hosted by Global TV anchor, Chris Gailus.

Canada’s Army, Navy and Air Force – See incredible displays and exhibits that honour our country’s armed forces and heroes

Great Canadian Art Experience – View William Meire’s Face of Canada and Canada’s Landscapes Exhibit, and various types of art from various Canadian artists. Create your own Canadian inspired origami

Canada Day Parade – Annual parade begins at 7:00PM at Broughton and West Georgia and travels through downtown on Burrard Street ending at West Hastings

Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show – The dazzling two-barge fireworks show starts at 10:30PM. A reserved fireworks viewing area is available at Canada Place. Tickets: $10 for adults and free for kids 12 & under (accompanied by adult) available through Ticketmaster.ca. All proceeds benefit the Strathcona Community Centre.
