Canada's badass curling team makes it to Olympic gold medal match

Canada will be going for gold in the men’s Olympic curling tournament.

Canadian skip Brad Jacobs helped avenge a preliminary loss to the Norwegians this morning by coming back and defeating them 5-4 in the semi-final later in the day. It took an extra end to get it done, but Canada found a way.

The semi-final victory guarantees at least a silver medal for the Canadian men, but they’ll be aiming for the gold.

It’s been a very successful tournament for the Canadians, who finished as the second-seed after a 7-2 record. That is despite being plagued by controversy after a fiery exchange with the Swedish team earlier in the tournament. They were at the centre of another dramatic moment against Italy on Wednesday as well.

It won’t be an easy gold medal match for Jacobs’ crew, as they will line up against Great Britain’s Bruce Mouat. The Canadians defeated Mouat in the preliminary round in a tightly fought 9-5 match.

The bronze medal game will be between Norway’s Magnus Ramsfjell and Switzerland’s Yannick Schwaller, who was undefeated before a semi-final loss. That will go on Friday at 1:05 p.m. EST/10:05 a.m PST.

The Canadians are looking to deliver the country’s first Olympic gold medal in men’s curling since the Sochi 2014 Games, which was also skipped by Jacobs. Canada is coming off a bronze medal finish in Beijing 2022 when Brad Gushue skipped the Olympic team.

Canadian curling fans can tune into the gold medal match against Switzerland on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. EST/10:05 a.m. PST.
