Canada Basketball announces training camp roster for FIBA Americas tournament

Andrew Wiggins highlights an NBA-laden training camp roster for Canada, ahead of the FIBA Americas tournament in Mexico City later this month.

The top two teams at FIBA Americas will qualify for the Olympics in Rio next year. Canada’s men’s team has not qualified for the Olympic tournament since 2000, back when Steve Nash was leading the charge.

Nash, who officially retired from the NBA earlier this year, is now the national team’s general manager.

With 10 NBA players headed to training camp August 14-20 in Toronto, Canada is poised to have its most talented team ever assembled. So talented, in fact, that not every NBA player on this list is a lock to make the final 12-man roster. Head coach Jay Triano will have some difficult decisions to make.

Canada will be without Tristan Thompson, who is still in contract negotiations with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Other NBA players not on the roster include Joel Anthony (Detroit Pistons), Samuel Dalembert (Dallas Mavericks) and Trey Lyles (Utah Jazz).
