Busy Burnaby intersection closed as collision sends several people to hospital

Traffic could be impacted for hours as a busy intersection in Burnaby will remain closed for much of the day after a multi-vehicle collision.
According to the Burnaby RCMP, the collision involved four vehicles and a pedestrian at Lougheed Highway and Production Way. The RCMP says that the collision took place at around 12:20 p.m. on April 1.
The collision has forced the intersection to be closed in all directions, and three vehicle occupants have been sent to the hospital with what RCMP, for now, is calling minor injuries. Meanwhile, the pedestrian was sent to the hospital and is in serious condition.
According to TransLink’s social media updates, the collision has also impacted a few transit routes.

“As we approach the afternoon commute, we are asking the public to avoid the area as the intersection will likely be closed into the evening hours,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj of the RCMP.
The Burnaby RCMP added that the investigation into what transpired is ongoing.
