DH Vancouver Staff Mar 03, 2016 8:50 am

After three sex assaults took place in Burnaby in a span of just one month, the Burnaby RCMP are warning women to remain vigilant, especially when walking alone at night.

It’s not known if any of these sex assaults are connected, but two of them happened in the Springer Avenue area. In both incidents, the women say they were approached from behind and groped by a man in a black or dark coloured hoodie. The first assault happened on January 29 at 10:30 p.m. and the other on March 1 at 2 a.m.

In the third incident on February 18, a woman had to be hospitalized after she was attacked and sexually assaulted in the middle of the day on the Burnaby Mountain Urban Trail. A sketch of the man has been released by police.

Here are the descriptions of the suspects in all three incidents in the order in which they occurred along with maps of the locations:

January 29

  • 5’6″ with a slim build
  • Wearing a black hoodie with the hood up and track pants that taper at the leg

February 18

  • Caucasian male, slim build, 5’7″
  • Balding, between 40 and 50 years old
  • Wearing black gloves, a grey hoodie, black jacket, black Adidas runners with green writing, and grey sweat pants with muddy cuffs

March 1

  • Caucasian male, taller than 5’8″, medium build
  • Wearing a dark hooded jacket, other dark clothing

The Burnaby RCMP are asking anyone with information in any of these assaults to call them at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous at 1-800-222-8477.
