Arts Alive 2019

What: Arts Alive is an annual showcase of collaborative student works held in collaboration with the Burnaby School District featured in the Lower Gallery. This year’s 37th edition presents a selection of artworks from elementary schools across the city. Math & Art is this year’s theme to act as inspiration for elementary students.

When: May 3 to June 9, 2019
Time: Tuesday-Friday, 10 am to 4:30 pm; Saturday and Sunday 12 – 5 pm

Burnaby Blooms

What: Burnaby Blooms (formerly Rhododendron Festival) is being re-imagined for 2019. View figures dressed in flowers, plants and foliage by floral designers as they create unique floral ladies. Returning in 2019 will be the popular plant sale and auction hosted by the Burnaby Rhododendron and Garden Society. Also on site will be the popular Burnaby Eco-Sculptures, floral installations, workshops, market vendors, entertainment, and more.

Burnaby Festival of Learning

What: The Burnaby Festival of Learning celebrates lifelong learning in creative, unconventional ways, and features a week-long series of free events for everyone that will inspire, engage, and spark creativity. Enjoy a variety of events happening throughout Burnaby, including performances, lectures, discussions, tours, and more.

Walk with the Doc

What: Join Dr. Davidicus Wong for an inspirational 30 to 45-minute talk on living a healthy and active lifestyle. Then join local physicians for a community walk at the Confederation Park track.

Mother’s Day at Burnaby Village Museum

Old School Comedy Jam

The Thrilla at The Villa

What: A stacked night of boxing at Grand Villa Casino. The main event will feature Jose de Jesus “El Changuito” Macias, who has 36 professional boxing fights under his belt with a winning record facing some of the best boxers in the world and was fellow sparring partner to the great Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Hako

What: OURO Collective and Tangible collaborate to create a multi-disciplinary dance experience. Alex Beim is the creative director and founder of Tangible, an experiential design firm whose public art and interactive installations have been displayed around the world. OURO is an eclectic dance collective that uses hip-hop, waacking, breaking, and contemporary dance as the foundation for the creation and production of new work. The show aims to engage the public and to break down the separation between performers and audience by creating an interactive and playful environment.

Sound Bites: Blackthorn
