Healthy Kids Fair

What: Healthy Kids Fair features free activities for parents and preschoolers up to five years old. Attendees can meet community health professionals specializing in preschool services while playing and learning how to keep children healthy and active. Children need to be accompanied by an adult, and all adults need to be accompanied by a child.

Spring Break at Burnaby Village Museum

Marion Cowlings

What: Bandleader, jazz singer and educator Marion Cowlings has had a long and storied career. He was mentored by legendary vocalist Jon Hendricks, chosen as a vocal soloist with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic, and replaced Dave Lambert in Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. He has performed at venues events such as the Lincoln Center, the Berlin Jazz Festival, and in Holland’s North Sea Jazz Festival. He performs in Burnaby on March 19.

Luminescence V

What: Luminescence V is a group exhibition of artists and works that explore the usage of light in 2D and 3D creations, including the popular and interactive Berzerkatroid Dragon by Ron Simmer. Artworks will be on display inside the gallery, as well as on the front and back yards. There is also a free opening reception on March 21 from 7 to 9 pm, with live entertainment, refreshments, and artists in attendance.

Genevieve Robertson: Looking Through a Hole in the Earth

What: The Burnaby Art Gallery presents Looking Through a Hole in the Earth, an exhibition of Genevieve Robertson’s recent explorations: works on paper composed with bitumen and seawater; forest-derived charcoal and graphite; and silt, seaweed and limestone.

Between Breaths

WhatBetween Breaths tells the story of real-life Whale Man, Dr. Jon Lien. The play jumps time backwards, starting at the final moments of Lien’s life to his very first whale intervention. As his life becomes further confined, Lien’s mind strives for memories of release and salvation. Written by Robert Chafe and directed by Jillian Keiley.
