Book Sale & Flea Market

What: Browse and discover thousands of Japanese/English books, manga, CDs and DVD.  The widest selection of used Japanese books in Metro Vancouver. Valentine-themed craft activities will be offered onsite.

Steamworks Yoga on Tap

What: Love craft beer? Love yoga? Join Steamworks Beer for Yoga on Tap. Modo Yoga Burnaby leads an all-levels yoga class. Please bring your own mat. Partial proceeds from this months event will go towards fundraising for the 4th annual Beer Wars. All money that is raised at Beer Wars goes to support Eastside Boxing gym which facilitates free exercise programs for at-risk youth, LGBT2 and women that have been exposed to violence.

In Fiction

What: In Fiction is a new work from Action at a Distance that blurs the lines between the real and the imagined. This visceral solo strikes a balance between cognitive understanding and phantasmal imagination with engaging, highly physical results. Created and performed by Vanessa Goodman in collaboration with lighting designer James Proudfoot.

When: Wednesday, February 6 to Saturday, February 9, 2019

Lunar New Year 2019

What: Join the Heights Merchants Association for their annual Lunar New Year celebration of the multiculturalism in our community. Spot the lion dancers on Hastings Street (between Boundary Road and Gamma Avenue) from 12 to 4 pm and receive a fortune cookie, a lucky red envelope and a chance to win prizes.

Mary Stallings

What: Mary Stallings is a classic example of how it takes time, musical seasoning and living a full life to mature as a vocalist and to address a lyric properly. While youthful instrumentalists may have something to say, Stallings brings a lifetime of emotional intelligence that enables her to truly inhabit a lyric. With a career spanning seven decades and sharing the stage with such luminaries as Joe Williams, Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald, Stallings’ appearance is one not to miss.

Exhibition Opening – Horizons

What: Horizons is an exhibition that will be held at the Deer Lake Art Gallery featuring the works of Deb Chaney, Jan Rankin, Wolfgang Vogt and Ronald Watt, and is hosted and organized by the Burnaby Arts Council.

When: Saturday, February 16, 2019. Exhibition runs until March 9, 2019

Family Day at the Carousel

Carousel/Burnaby Village Museum

What: Enjoy the antics of a children’s entertainer, craft activities, heritage games and unlimited carousel rides. All activities take place in the Carousel Pavilion. No access to Museum site. Children and adults must attend together.

What: This collaborative piece is built upon shared desires: to keep the conversation moving, to change what feels stuck or stagnant, to practice empathy and become better listeners, and to keep an authentic autonomy and group intention at play. Set in an environment striving to be in continuous transformation, the performers take charge of lighting and sound, shifting the movement in reaction to one another and the changing space. This creates a responsive, improvised state for those onstage and an enlivened experience for those witnessing.

L’Elisir D’Amore (The Elixir of Love)

What: Experience a story of Nemorino, a poor peasant who is in love with Adina, a beautiful, wealthy landowner, but Adina doesn’t know he exists. To add to his dilemma he has a rival; Sergeant Belcore, who is openly courting Adina. How to attract her attention? He needs a miracle. Just in time, along comes a travelling medicine man, Dr. Dulcamara, with his “Elixir of Love.”
