A business in Burnaby that has been in operation for over 90 years is closing up shop after an impressive run.
Mitchell Printers, or Mitchell Press Ltd., according to its Instagram profile, is a print shop located at Riverbend Court in Burnaby.
Mitchell operates in a plant that is over 60,000 sq. ft., and initially began as a financial newspaper.
The shop says it evolved into “a highly regarded heatset web and digital printing company.”
The business shared that it is “extremely proud” of what it has been able to accomplish for virtually an entire century.
You have likely come across one of Mitchell’s prints without even realizing it. One example is the Capture Photography Festival catalogue, which is often available for free in random parts of Vancouver, like coffee shops.

Considering how long ago the rise of digital was, forcing many print publications to go extinct, it’s nothing short of impressive that Mitchell Printers has lasted this long.
Many in the Burnaby local business community, as well as folks from around Metro Vancouver, offered condolences in response to the Instagram post.
“Thank you for everything you’ve done for all of us. This is such a huge loss for our design community,” someone commented.
Someone representing another print company said, “So sorry to hear. Thinking of the great print reps. I worked with over the years.”
The business’s Instagram account also features cool videos of the printers in action.

It thanked its talented team, saying that the business’s legacy is “the result of decades of dedication, loyalty, professionalism and expertise from the people who have worked here. We are deeply grateful for everything they have contributed.”
It also left some hope on the table, saying that there may be additional announcements in the future, and to “stay tuned” in the days ahead.
“Thank you for being part of Mitchell’s 98-year history,” it added.
