A mother and her son were hospitalized Monday night, after a fire ripped through a unit on the seventh floor of a Burnaby high-rise near Metrotown.
Around 9:15 pm, fire crews responded to the scene with five engines, two ladder trucks and 31 personnel to battle the blaze.
The fire was contained to one unit, and “we actually knocked it down pretty quickly – probably [in] about 30 minutes,” said Burnaby Assistant Fire Chief, Michael Hurley.
The mother and son were taken to Vancouver General Hospital’s Burn Unit and treated for injuries, Hurley told Daily Hive on Tuesday.
“One of the patients is expected to be released today, while his mother is still in critical condition,” he added.
Investigators are on the scene today and although the cause of the fire has not yet ben determined, it’s believed the fire started in the kitchen, Hurley furthered.
