An apartment fire early Saturday morning in Burnaby claimed the life of a man in his late 50s.
Assistant Fire Chief Rick Weir says the fire was quickly upgraded to a three alarm call, meaning they had 45 firefighters on the scene.
“First crews arrived to find intense smoke and heat, but they had a relatively quick knock-down of the fire before finding a body,” he said.
It turned out that there was only one other occupant of the building who was displaced by the fire.
The fire began around 12:30 a.m. at a 16-storey high-rise, at 7264 Kingsway.
Weir says the cause is still under investigation, but it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
