Burnaby celebrating 125th birthday with weekend full of events

The City of Burnaby is marking a milestone birthday this weekend, and it has big plans to celebrate the occasion.

Beginning Friday and lasting right through Sunday, Burnaby is celebrating its 125th birthday with a variety of activities throughout the community.

The festivities kick off at different times in five different locations on Friday, and activities continue throughout the weekend at different facilities as well.

Heres’ the full rundown of what’s happening and where:

Confederation Park

At Confederation Park, the fun begins on Friday from 1:25 pm to 2 pm, with a birthday kick-off ceremony.

Continuing festivities take place in the park until 5:30 pm, and include activities like different types of dance lessons.

Confederation Park is located at 4709 Pandora Street.

Bonsor Recreation Centre

Check out the happenings at the Bonsor Recreation Centre on Friday evening.

Beginning at 5 pm, there will be a family yoga session for all ages. This will be followed by Zumba and cycling.

The evening will also feature a dance party, a “Fun Zone,” and a public swim.

Edmonds Plaza

Don’t miss the Party on the Plaza at Edmonds Plaza, beginning at 4 pm.

The plaza will also be home to an official welcome party, as well as live entertainment

Kensington Community Complex

Ice skating is the order of the day at the Kensington Community complex.

The public is invited to come down and go for a spin on their skates, any time between 6 and 9 pm. Live music and entertainment will accompany ice-goers

Willingdon Community Centre

Those who want to check out the Willingdon Community Centre can do so any time between 6 pm and 8 pm, for a host of family-friendly activities, including Zumba, crafts and games, face painting, Imagination Playground blocks, popcorn and cupcake decorating.

Saturday, September 23

Cameron Recreation Complex

The birthday weekend fun continues on Saturday at the Cameron Recreation Complex.

Drop in anytime, beginning at 9 am with a pancake breakfast, hosted by Ricky’s and enjoy ongoing fun until 1:30 pm. The morning includes a Family Fun Zone, a jazz band performance, and a ceremonial cake cutting.

Sunday, September 24

Burnaby Village Museum

Wrap up a weekend of celebrating the city’s history by learning a little bit more about it.

From 11 am to 4:30 pm, the Burnaby Village Museum will host a variety of family-friendly activities, including demonstrations, displays, tours, crafts, live music, and $1.25 carousel rides.

Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre

Go for a celebratory Sunday swim at the Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre.

For $1.25, the public can join the Party at the Pool, which runs from 1 pm to 5 pm, and features activities like games, crafts, popcorn, cupcakes (while supplies last), face painting, activities and roving entertainment.
