Brunch in Vancouver: Cafe Medina

Dec 19 2017, 6:13 am

There’s no better way to start off a weekend morning than by having a good brunch. Thankfully in Vancouver we are surrounded by amazing restaurants with brunches that are even worth waking up early for. Cafe Medina is one restaurant that offers such good brunches. Located in the historic part of Gastown, this restaurant serves brunches that lure in huge crowds every weekend. But even though a line up is to be expected upon every visit to Cafe Medina, I’ve never heard anything but hypes and recommendations for this restaurant. That’s because they do brunches right.

Cafe Medina is widely known for their coffee. From my experiences, it’s really the best in town. I don’t need to add as much cream and sugar in the coffee here because it doesn’t taste bitter or burnt at all – there’s nothing that needs to be concealed. Their motto here is “Life is too short for bad coffee“, and they surely do live by it.

Other than coffee, Medina is also known for their waffles. They are a must-have here! These waffles are small in size and are perfect to have as a starter to brunch. There are a variety of toppings you can choose for your waffle – milk chocolate, raspberry caramel, and mixed berry compote to name a few. Take your pick!

The Paella at Medina is great for all super hungry brunchers. This Spanish fried rice is jam-packed with items from all the food groups and is guaranteed to satisfy any empty stomach. Flavoured with tomato sauce and spices, this dish has a unique exotic taste that will keep you coming back.

For those who seek an adventure in their food, the La Santé here is full of surprises. This plate has an assortment of different breakfast items that are presented in a neat artistic manner. This is great for anyone who can’t commit to eating just one item for brunch.

And for light eaters, the Fraise et Brebie is certainly a viable option. This strawberry salad is flavoured with feta cheese and pomegranate dressing, making it an extremely healthy dish. It doesn’t hurt that the plate looks like a work of art too.

At Cafe Medina, you can expect a brunch that is different from your regular ham and eggs. A lot of their brunch items are unique and can’t be found at other restaurants, which makes them that much more worth visiting. What’s even better is that they’re priced fairly reasonably for a downtown cafe – a drink, waffle, and brunch entree should only set you back ~$20. Check out this restaurant to find out what all the hype is about!
