Local entrepreneur changes the way Vancouverites view eyewear

In a world where many retailers are struggling to stay afloat, Vancouver-based bruce eyewear is celebrating its 15th anniversary on July 1, 2015.

Founded by licensed optician and Vancouver native Nada Vuksic and The Brass Monocle’s Garry Hapton, bruce eyewear’s success over the past decade and half is due in part to the company’s mission to change the way Vancouverites see eyewear.

“When we started bruce eyewear, we wanted to offer something daring, something different,” says Vuksic. “To me, eyewear is an extension of people’s unique personal style. Bruce eyewear is all about empowering people to be themselves and see themselves in different ways.”

What began in 2000 as the small optical section of a lifestyle store has grown into two Vancouver boutiques and a brand known for its dedication to service and style-forward products.

Bruce eyewear carries a unique collection of eyewear from designers like Theo, Anne et Valentin, Niloca, Ahlem Eyewear, Dita, Thom Browne, Garrett Leight, Mykita, Anna-Karin Karlsson, Blake Kuwahara and many, many more. Most of the frames are logo-free, putting details like frame shape, texture, fit and colour first.

“We’re passionate about individuality and seek out unique frames for our clients,” says Vuksic. “We also usually only carry one colour and model of each product, ensuring people walk away with truly unique pairs of glasses.”

The bruce eyewear team is dedicated to helping people look their very best. From work to home and everything in between, the team helps clients build their wardrobe of eyewear to suit their changing lifestyles and interests.

“We learned early that what sets us apart is our commitment to providing unique products and exceptional customer service,” Vuksic says. “We are beyond grateful to have a chance to help our clients bring their eyewear style to life.”

As a local business with retail stores in Vancouver’s Gastown and Main Street neighbourhoods, bruce eyewear is fiercely proud of its Vancouver roots. The company also gives back to the community by supporting diverse groups like PEAK House, Soup Sisters, Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver Art Gallery, BC Children’s Hospital and the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“To us, community is everything,” Vuksic says. “Vancouver is the best city in the world and we’re here to make sure our clients from all over the globe continue to have amazing eyewear. Thank you, Vancouver, for an amazing ride.”
