Police are investigating yet another shooting in Surrey, making this the 30th shooting incident in the municipal jurisdiction since January 1.
According to RCMP, shots were fired in broad daylight at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday from a suspect SUV into a victim car at the intersection of 88th Avenue and 132 Street, on the border of the Newton and Whalley areas.
Witnesses told police that multiple shots were fired from the SUV, which was stopped in a turn bay while the car was in the number two lane – next to the turn lane.
The SUV then fled south on 132 Street while the car travelled north on the same street. Police were unable to locate anyone who may have been injured from the incident.
“Surrey RCMP serious crime investigators are continuing to obtain information from several witnesses that were at or near the intersection,” reads a statement by police. “The Lower Mainland District Forensic Identification Section attended the scene and were able to gather several pieces of evidence that could advance this investigation. No arrests or suspects at this time, unknown at this time if linked to any other shooting in recent history.”
On Friday, Surrey RCMP made public that there have been 28 shootings in the municipality since the start of the year. The 29th shooting followed shortly after on Saturday night.
