Bring a date to Bibo for the FREE wine, stay for the live music

They say there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but every Monday in July at Bibo, there is such thing as free wine — which, let’s face it, is better.

Bibo Pizzeria con Cucina on West 4th Avenue just announced a new Monday event where you and your date can recreate the iconic Lady and the Tramp spaghetti kiss (should you feel inclined) to live Italian music. And did we mention the free glass of their brand new white wine on the menu, Gavi di Gavi, if you book a reservation that night?

Taking your date here on free wine Mondays might appear like a faux pas, but, rest assured, this is no walk-in special at Pizza Pizza. They have the DOP label plastered on their menu — burrata, buffalo mozzarella, and tomato sauce. And that free vino is nothing to scoff at either, with its DOCG label.

For the uninitiated, DOP means “Protected Designation of Origin” which ensures that products are grown locally, and DOCG wines are produced under the strictest regulations, guaranteeing its geographic authenticity and, thus, quality.

The pizzeria’s expatriate Italian chefs pride themselves on their food’s authenticity, which, in Italy, means letting fresh, simple ingredients sing like the mellifluous tones of Romanic languages.

We recommend their wide selections of pizzas, with their delicious, light dough leavened for at least 24 hours and la mozzarella di bufala DOP, traditionally produced in the province of Caserta.

Dive into something new and rich like the Montanara white pizza with porcini mushroom cream, coppa piacentina DOP (a special pork salumi aged from six months to a year), smoked scamorza (Italian cow’s milk cheese similar to mozzarella) and truffle oil.

Or you can introduce yourself or your date to guanciale (Italian cured pork jowl or cheek) with their handmade gnocchi with guanciale, asparagus and pecorino cheese.

But the star here is the free glass of Gavi di Gavi and your ability to discuss Italian wine to your date like a seasoned connoisseur. What you will be enjoying is a dry white wine from a DOCG zone in Piedmont, Italy, and is made from the region’s finest white grape, cortese. It tastes like the summer — medium-bodied and citrus-y — and goes well with pasta and fish.

Bibo Pizzeria con Cucina is located in 1835 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver. Make sure you make your reservations for any Monday night in July, starting at 6 p.m. to take advantage of the live summer music event and a free glass of Gavi di Gavi.

You can book a table here. Ciao.
