Break-in victims held at gunpoint at UBC's Wesbrook Village: police

Police are asking for the public’s help after an alleged break-in at the University of British Columbia (UBC)’s Wesbrook Village.

The incident is said to have taken place on Wednesday, May 29, at approximately 11:30 am.

Officers report being called to the 3400-block of Wesbrook Mall, after receiving a call about a break-and-enter at a private residence.

When the victims entered the home, they were interrupted by a suspect who allegedly held them at gunpoint. Police report he then directed the victims into a bathroom while he escaped the area.

The suspect is described as a Middle Eastern or South Asian male in his 50s with a strong accent. He’s approximately 5’4″ with a heavy build and clean shaven.

At the time of the break-in, police say he was wearing a dark-coloured ball cap and a dark-coloured zip jacket.
