To no one’s surprise, Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West has been re-elected to the position he has held since 2018.

West, a popular figure in Port Coquitlam, hasn’t had much competition in previous elections, and in the last election, he won by default.

This year, West finally faced some competition with two other candidates in the race: Connor Fesenmaier and Pasquale Zampieri.

Fesenmaier, a business owner, promised to bring a higher standard of accountability to the city, with an eight-point platform, including promises to fix traffic and bring transparency to City Hall.

Zampieri ran on a platform of affordability, basic services, and accountability.

West campaigned on his record, and on the campaign trail, he reminded voters that his city has the lowest average property taxes and utility fees in the region. He also said Port Coquitlam is one of the safest B.C. cities.

In his time as mayor, he’s also made a name for himself beyond Port Coquitlam, as he has advocated to senior levels of government on various issues. For example, as the chair of the TransLink Mayors’ Council, he called on Ottawa to help create a new funding model for transit to help with both capital and operating needs.
