Brad Pitt joins celeberties who demand cage-free eggs from Costco

Brad Pitt has joined other A-list celebrities who condemn Costco for caging chickens for the production of eggs.

The save-the-chickens hen house now includes Ryan Gosling and Bill Maher. All three demand that the retail-giant stop selling eggs produced by hens crammed in cages.

In a letter, published by CBS, addressed to Costco CEO Craig Jelinek, Pitt writes, “I join Ryan Gosling, Bill Maher, and countless others in urging Costco to sell exclusively cage-free egg.”

He goes on to state that 10 years ago, Costco had promised a timeline to eliminate their use of cages but since then there has been no progress.

“In short, cramming hens into cages for their entire lives constitutes cruelty to animals, and animals deserve better,” Pitt states. “As you know, many major corporations, from Burger King to Unilever, are getting rid of cages—and Whole Foods hasn’t sold eggs from caged hens in years,” writes Pitt.

Before he signed off with a polite “sincerely,” he asks the big-box store to “set a reasonable time frame to stop selling eggs from caged hens.”
