"Boys, welcome to the team" - Canucks give McCann & Virtanen some good news (VIDEO)

As we told you about on Sunday, a pair of 19-year-old Canucks rookies got some good news on Sunday… Eventually. Jared McCann and Jake Virtanen were berated for their play on the ice by Willie Desjardins and some of their teammates in a lengthy video session before practice. It was all a prank of course.

Desjardins told them (convincingly): “I get lots on our young guys – well why don’t you play them more? Well if I’m going to play you, you’ve got to do your jobs”. Alex Burrows and last year’s rookie 19-year-old, Bo Horvat, got in on the fun as well.

In the end, Horvat got to deliver the good news: “Boys, welcome to the team.”

Watch the video:

Some of the players spoke to the media afterwards, to tell their side of the story. Omar A recapped it nicely in yesterday’s post-game SixPack and I recommend giving it a read. Apparently McCann was on the verge of tears and Henrik Sedin could barely contain his laughter.
