One of Vancouver’s longest-running costume stores will be closing its doors this fall.
Boo La La, formerly known as Carol’s Costume Corner in North Vancouver, has been open since 1985. The Lower Lonsdale retailer has catered to party and festival-goers, corporate events, local theatre, and everything in between.

This November, however, Laurie Sluchinski, owner of the company and “Empress Boo,” will be handing back the keys and closing the doors.
“This is a magical shop that provided the fun of dress-up and power of transformation to all,” she tells Daily Hive. “It’s time for me to go a new path, embrace the unknown, and grow from here.”
“With this reality, it means everything in the collection is now for sale.”
Boo La La will start their closing sale in September, with more than 5,000 costumes available for purchase.
Themes range from the 1920s (Gatsby), 1950s, uniforms, furs, and the Swinging Sixties, to name a few. And of course, expect plenty of Disney and superhero outfits.
Rental items will be on sale at the one-day rental rate, which ranges anywhere from $55 to $125. Retail costumes will be marked down (some as low as $10) and all kids costumes will be 50% off.
There will also be plenty of accessories available for grabs including props and wigs.

The first week of November will feature blowout pricing for whatever is left, including racks and store fixtures.
“Always wanted that luxurious Marie Antoinette gown or real leather chaps? Now is the time,” says Sluchinski. “I love that this impressive collection is now being exploded across the land into many, many homes and hearts.”
