BC folk hero, internet sensation, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry is one of the subjects for a fundraiser dedicated to ease local food insecurity.

Calgary artist Mandy Stobo has created three portraits of Canadian public health heroines: our own beloved Dr. Henry; Dr.Deena Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer of Alberta; and Dr. Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada.

The portraits are featured on a limited-edition collection of t-shirts by Canadian fashion brands SophieGrace and Madame Premier, and 100% of the proceeds from the sales of these shirts will be going to local initiatives in Vancouver (Greater Vancouver Food Bank), Calgary (Fresh Routes), and Toronto (Second Harvest) to support food security for vulnerable citizens.

“Both of our brands are focused on honouring women and celebrating their success,” said SophieGrace founder Emma May, in an email. “Seeing these incredible women of science help guide and calm us through these unprecedented times inspired us to do something to help.”

The T-shirts are 100% combed and ring-spun cotton, and they retail for $45 plus taxes and shipping. They can be purchased here and here.

Stobo has made the portrait files available on her website for anyone who wants to pay homage to these remarkable women leading the pandemic responses in Alberta, BC, and Canada.
