Police in Surrey are investigating after a body was found in a ditch on Saturday.

Around 2:50 pm on Saturday afternoon, people walking in the 3600 block of 176 Street noticed a body in a water-filled ditch and called police.

When RCMP arrived, they found the body of the deceased person, and it appeared the “body had been in the water for some time,” Surrey RCMP said in a releases.

Surrey Detachment’s Major crime unit, along with the LMD Forensic unit, and the LMD Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service have begun jointly working on the investigation. “While this investigation is at a very early stage there is no information at this time that this incident is related to any other on going investigations,” police added.

176 Street was also closed at 32 Avenue for some time.

While no further details are available at this time, police are asking anyone who may have any further information – and who has not yet spoken to police – to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
