A body has been discovered by police in Burnaby following a shooting in the vicinity on Sunday night.

According to Burnaby RCMP, just after 8 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at the 7300-block of Sandborne Avenue, just one block away from SkyTrain’s Edmonds Station. Police then began to search the woods in Byrne Creek Ravine Park, which continued through the morning.

A body has since been found near Sandborne Avenue and Station Hill Drive. The area has been cordoned off to allow for a joint investigation between Metro Vancouver’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) and the Burnaby RCMP.

“We do not believe this incident is connected to any other ongoing Burnaby RCMP investigation,” said Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Derek Thibodeau in a statement. “As police are in the evidence gathering phase, no further details are available at this time.”

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4488 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
