Arts & Culture Volunteer Event: Professionals Looking to Make a Difference

Dec 19 2017, 4:41 pm

Are you interested in expanding your board and committee credentials? Do you love Arts & Culture? Then you’ll want to check out boardlink Vancouver, happening next week at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Many Arts & Culture organizations have a tough time soliciting Vancouver’s professionals to lend their volunteer time at a leadership level. Conversely, Vancouverites have many professional skills and expertise to offer these worthy non-profits, but may not know how to get involved. Enter boardlink Vancouver, the best night in town to find Arts & Culture volunteer options that appeal to you and your professional development. I had the opportunity to interview the Vancouver chapter’s co-chair, Melody Ma, about what to expect on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

What is boardLink Vancouver?

boardLink is a matching program connecting young business professionals with arts organizations looking for volunteer board and committee members. This year marks the first time that artsScene Vancouver is hosting boardLink Live in Vancouver. We are expecting over 30 arts organizations and 70 young professionals to be in attendance, as well as an expert panel of speakers.

Tickets are only $12 and include a beverage and light nibbles. Spots are limited and it will be sure to sell out before the end of this week! Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

Why should Vancity Buzz Readers attend?

boardLink gives young professionals a chance to mix, mingle and match with local pre-selected arts organizations to find out about volunteer board positions. This is a great opportunity for someone who has never served on a board before or for someone looking to make a switch to a new organization. It’s a great way to offer professional skills back to the Vancouver arts & culture community in a meaningful way.

What kinds of organizations will be there?

We are hosting Vancouver arts organizations from all disciplines, including the following:

  • DOXA Film Festival
  • Circus West
  • Firehall Arts Centre
  • Roedde House Museum
  • Vancouver International Dance Festival
  • Pride in Art Society
  • Kokoro Dance Theatre
  • And many more!

Any specific skills you’re looking for?

Arts organizations are looking for young professionals with all skill sets varying from marketing and communications, event planning, financial management and accounting, fundraising, legal services, human resources, volunteer development, educational programming, IT, strategic planning and more. Most importantly, we’re looking for professionals with genuine enthusiasm and interest in the arts and the art organization of their choice!

Who puts on boardlink events?

artsScene is a volunteer group of leading young professionals dedicated to supporting the growth of the arts in Canada through volunteerism and patronage. Our goal is to cultivate the next generation of business leaders, innovators, creative thinkers and influencers who can develop best practices to support the arts and culture sector. artsScene Vancouver recently re-launched in April 2013 with much success, attracting almost 200 attendees at the re-launch event.

boardlink Vancouver happens on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the rooftop of the Vancouver Art Gallery. More information available here.
