Vancouver is known for lush scenery and beautiful ocean and mountain views. Combine that with a love for fitness, and it’s no wonder one of our local marathons ranks among the top in the world.

Forbes magazine included Vancouver’s BMO Marathon in their top 12 Marathons Worth Travelling For list alongside Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Paris, and even the Great Wall of China.

Vancouver was featured in Forbes’ top Marathons Worth Travelling For list in 2012 and 2014 as well.

Our city was ranked highly for the picturesque beauty runners encounter during the BMO marathon.

“You’ll tour the Canadian city, as the course leads you through 12 neighborhoods, six beaches, three parks and the picturesque Seawall, the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path. The best part is the views — you’ll get a glimpse of everything from snow-capped mountain ranges to cherry blossom trees. Even better: 70 percent of the race offers shoreline vistas,” reads the magazine.

The BMO Vancouver Marathon has been honoured by several other publications as well, including USA Today and CNN Travel.

“We are honoured that Forbes Travel has again included the BMO Vancouver Marathon as one of the top destination marathons anywhere in the world and look forward to showcasing our world-class event on the global stage this Spring,” says Charlene Krepiakevich, executive director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society.

The BMO Vancouver Marathon takes place this year on May 1 and will feature six different races, all with one shared finish line. There will also be a three day Health, Sports, and Lifestyle Expo from April 28 to 30.
