Canadian band Blue Rodeo releases anti-Stephen Harper song

Canadian country/blues band Blue Rodeo is getting political with a new song that seems to directly call out Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Called “Stealin’ All My Dreams,” the song is a scathing critique of the Conservative government’s nine year reign over Canada.

“What happened to our democracy?” sings lead singer Greg Keelor while words appear on the screen with further criticisms of the Harper government, from refugees and immigration to poverty and climate change.

“In 2007 the Prime Minister promised to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. In 2014 Harper said that to reduce emissions would be crazy, declaring ‘we’re clearly not going to do it,'” reads the bold white typeface on the screen at one point.

While the scathing messages continually appear on screen, Keelor, accompanied by lead guitarist Jim Cuddy, performs against a white wall. The music video is all in black and white.

The iconic Canadian band was formed in 1984 and was inducted into the Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. The group has won 11 Junos.
