No matter what happens for the rest of the playoffs, Trey Yesavage’s 2025 season with the Toronto Blue Jays is probably already way beyond his wildest dreams.
The team’s surprise starting pitcher for their Game 2 matchup Sunday at the Rogers Centre, Yesavage had an all-time performance in just his fourth-ever MLB game.
Going 5.1 innings in front of a packed home crowd, Yesavage sent down just about every batter he faced, giving up no hits and just one walk in an 11-strikeout start.

And while plenty of Blue Jays fans in attendance were having a blast watching a star in the making, perhaps nobody was having a better day than his father, Dave.
“I was hoping he would do well, but I never expected this. Especially against the Yankees!” he told FOX’s Ken Rosenthal.
Sitting in the crowd level at the Rogers Centre, the elder Yesavage was seen high-fiving just about everyone around him during his son’s awesome performance.

“When he was making his first debut as an MLB player in the big leagues, we were pretty teary-eyed. We were pretty teary with this. We knew Trey could do it. He knew he could do it as well,” Dave told Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae in a mid-game interview. “My voice is a little rough. I’m cheering so much.”

And Blue Jays fans were eating it up.
“Yesavage and his dad are both going to need to ice their arms after the game,”@Sheldologist wrote on X.
“That’s the royal family btw,” @leafsf116 added.
It’s unlikely that Yesavage gets back into action for the rest of the series, but could potentially factor in as their Game 5 starter should the series end up going the distance. But if the Blue Jays are going to advance past the Yankees and make it to the American League Championship Series, it clearly seems like they’d benefit from his services again.
Though we don’t have access to their travel itinerary, it seems pretty likely the Yesavages will probably be in the crowd for Trey’s next start, too.
