Blue Jays re-sign Canadian Michael Saunders to minor league deal

Michael Saunders is a Toronto Blue Jay again after the organization announced that they’d signed the outfielder to a Minor League deal.

The BC-born 30-year-old outfielder was released after batting a pretty terrible .205/.257/.360 with the Phillies this year.

But he nevertheless represents a low-risk move on the part of the Jays who will be hoping that he can recapture the form that saw Captain Canada make the All-Star roster in 2016.

Saunders of course previously spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons in Toronto after moving from Seattle in the deal that sent J.A. Happ to the Mariners.

His time in Toronto didn’t start out on the best foot as Saunders wound up missing most of the 2015 campaign with a meniscus injury he suffered after stepping on a sprinkler in spring training.

But he rebounded in 2016, enjoying a successful campaign that saw him hit 24 dingers and 57 RBIs.
