It’s an intimate little bar in one of Vancouver’s fastest-rising neighbourhoods. Bismarck in Crosstown is worth checking out not only for the stylish atmosphere and locally-sourced menu, but also for the music, entertainment and unbeatable drink specials.
Where is Crosstown, you ask? It’s roughly defined as north/south between Pender and the viaducts and west/east between Beatty and Taylor. It’s the intersection of five neighbourhoods: the downtown business district, the stadium/entertainment district, Yaletown, Gastown and Chinatown. Being wedged between these distinct sections of the city means Crosstown pulls flavour and influence from them all, and Bismarck is the perfect reflection of that diversity.
Inside, the curved wall of backlit photography creates a dramatic first impression. In bar terms it’s the perfect size: not too big and not too small, but with great height and sense of space. Attention to detail is evident, and the atmosphere is a crowd pleasing without being cookie cutter.
Bismarck’s Crunchy Chicken Sandwich
As well as decor-wise, this bar nails it food-wise. Custom breads and locally sourced meats make up menu specialties like the Crunchy Chicken Sandwich (a top seller) and the Meatball Sliders. Other Bismarck bests include the spectacular Tuna Tacos and Sausage in a Bun, which lets you choose from a delicious range of meats. For those loving the taco vibe, try the Spicy Lamb Merguez Tacos. For those not loving the meat vibe really at all, you’re in vegetarian luck: Bismarck serves an amazing Kale Caesar Salad.
Bismarck’s Tuna Tacos
Bismarck has events going on around the calendar, including “Drank.” every Tuesday when all taps are just $3. In the music department, there are rotating DJ’s on Thursdays, Rap, R&B & Soul on Fridays, and Chill Wave, Rap, R&B & Nudisco on Saturdays.
