Toronto-based Big Smoke Burger coming to Vancouver

Vancouver’s burger lovers will soon be able to get a taste of Toronto at the corner of Broadway and Cambie soon when Big Smoke Burger opens up its first franchise in western Canada.

Taking over the spot vacated by Zako’s Deli at 500 West Broadway, Big Smoke Burger is expanding their reach in North America with their Vancouver location.

Big Smoke Burger, whose name evokes both the enticing aroma of a freshly-grilled patty and one of Toronto’s many nicknames, uses meats brought in fresh daily (no freezing) and cook them to order on an open flame grill, explains a Big Smoke Burger representative. The emphasis is “on quality, freshness and simplicity – no microwaves, no short-cuts and no hidden ingredients,” elaborates Big Smoke Burger.

Other touches diners can expect to find at Big Smoke Burger, on a menu closely mirroring the options at the chain’s Ontario locations, are hand-cut fries with special sauces, gourmet burger toppings, and hand-spun milkshakes.

When it comes to ingredients, Big Smoke Burger is exploring source options from B.C.’s Fraser Valley for meat. The restaurant intends to adapt their core menu to Vancouver when local ingredients from regional sources fits the company’s goal to provide customers with the highest-quality food served at its freshest.

The burger restaurant is already making a big name for themselves around the globe. Big Smoke Burger currently has locations in four Ontario cities; New York City and Denver in the United States; and Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.

“Big Smoke Burger has proven they can work in any market and can adapt to various sites/formats,” says Vancouver franchisee Haley Grewal. “The unique taste from the combination of the beef, toppings and their signature sauces is what really hooked me.”

Because Big Smoke Burger grills to order, diners will have a brief (8 to 10 minute) wait to get their orders, making this a sort of slow food done fast dining experience. The restaurant will have counter ordering and tableside delivery, and a seating capacity of about 30 split between two communal tables and some window seats. Groups will be able to call ahead to reserve spots.

Vancouver’s Big Smoke Burger is looking to fire up the grills as soon as early July of this year.
