Mike Bibby lands NCAA coaching gig and the Vancouver Grizzlies legend looks jacked now

Former Vancouver Grizzlies guard Mike Bibby has a new job working in basketball.
Sacramento State announced today the 46-year-old will be their new head coach. The team competes in the Big Sky Conference in NCAA Division 1 action and finished last year with a 7-25 record.
Bibby was drafted by the Grizzlies in 1998 and played three seasons in Vancouver. Before the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, Bibby was traded to the Sacramento Kings, where he played 476 games over seven years. He also played for the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, and Miami Heat.
Shortly after his playing days ended, Bibby started his coaching career. He was part of the staff at Shadow Mountain High School, one of the top programs in Arizona, and helped them capture five state titles.
Bibby has also been an assistant coach with the Puerto Rican National Team and various NBA summer league teams.
After spending so much time with the Kings during his NBA days, it’s fitting Bibby is going back to Sacramento to continue this next stage in his basketball career.
“Since 2001, Sacramento has felt like home to me,” Bibby said in the press release. “The people, the fans and the passion they have for the city and their teams is unmatched. I have always felt that passion, and will always be thankful for how I was embraced. Sacramento State is no different…we are going to build, we are going to develop, and we are going to win.”
“Mike Bibby’s basketball expertise, love for Sacramento, and passion for developing student-athletes perfectly align with our goals for Hornet basketball,” said Sacramento State President Luke Wood. “His leadership and vision will elevate our program to new heights and inspire our community to rally behind Sac State basketball.”
Bibby is quite an imposing figure on the sideline, as he’s changed his physique drastically following his playing days. The point guard had a slim build during his career but has become a workout fiend since moving into coaching.

āIām always working out,ā Bibby said in a 2020 interview. āIn the morning, I do full-body lifts for three hours, three days a week, and the other two days, with bands. I go to the gym and play (basketball) later in the day and do some more drills at night.ā
