Best spots for a nightcap in Vancouver

Dec 20 2017, 4:34 am

Whether you’re searching for a late night drinking venue to dress to impress, to relieve the stresses of a hard days work, to toast to the evening with a group of friends, or to cozy on up to your plus one, Vancouver has got you covered.

With so many great spots for a nightcap in the city we turned to Vancouver-based food and lifestyle blog Nomss.com to curate a list of perfect venues to enjoy a late night tipple or two.

We asked Nancy Wu, editor-in-chief of Nomss, what the deciding factors were when it comes to choosing a spot in the city to enjoy a nightcap. She explains:

Our nightcap venue choices typically depend on the mood and occasion. A date night nightcap with the hubby would be different to a girls’ night out or that with friends. We typically like to pick places that are not too rowdy so we can keep conversations flowing. Short wait time, good service, and snacks are always a bonus. If they open late, even better, this way we don’t have to worry about moving shop.

Here are the best places in Vancouver to grab a nightcap, as selected by Nancy Wu of Nomss.com:

“Open concept seating, live music, and white marble floors, undeniably make this polished spot the perfect venue for a date night nightcap. We like their RawBar for sushi, tuna poke tacos, and charcuterie and cheese plates. If you’re a fan of Moscow Mules and ginger beer, try the Celibataire cocktail.”

“You’re in good hands at UVA Wine & Cocktail Bar. Attached to Moda Hotel and Cibo Trattoria, UVA shares the craft wine programs curated by Robert Stelmachuk, General Manager/Wine Director and Lauren Mote, one of the best bartenders in Vancouver. This upscale lounge is efficacious for any occasion and is open late, until 2 a.m. Off the menu we like their steamed mussels, burrata, and the charcuterie and cheese selections.”

“We like the casual modern atmosphere at PiDGiN, especially once the eatery’s After Dark happy hour begins at 10:30 p.m. Easy into a few oyster shots with apple and horseradish, then move onto Old Fashioned bitters like the Negroni made with Gin, Vermouth, Campari, and a cold press coffee ice ball. It’s always a riot here with friends.”

Prohibition

“A night out on the town is best followed by the sophisticated ambience of the Roaring Twenties. We love the beautiful opulent lounge at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia in downtown Vancouver for just that and more. It’s intimate, romantic, and boasts live entertainment. The menu offers a good selection of bespoke cocktails, Champagne, wines, spirits, and craft beers.”

“Hello Beautiful! Look for the markings on the sidewalk out front to lead you into this “hidden” bar in Yaletown. This is the place to enjoy some fun and live music. We like Hello Goodbye for its cool urban vibe and unpretentiousness. You’ll appreciate this new watering hole. Their Curiositorium cocktail is a real winner.”

“Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie is a modern Chinese restaurant in old Chinatown. We like their tapas menu and crafted cocktails. Sometimes, it gets super busy here at night but we simply can’t get enough of their beef tartare–we always order it no matter how full we are. The plum flower paw cocktail is pretty rad too.”

The Union

“A casual place for beer and cocktails. The moss green industrial oversized lamps, long wooden tables, and relaxed vibe make The Union inviting. There is a good selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and bangas (featured mixed drinks). Cebu Sour, Tom Yum Collins, and Banga #1 are our favorites. Order a side of mussels and chicken wings too! You’ll get hungry. Trust us.”
