Best Rooftop Patios in Vancouver

Vancouver isn’t necessarily know for it’s rooftop patios, but the ones we do have sure do make up for it. To make things easy, we’ve put together a list that will help you find the best of the best and those hidden gems scattered across the city.

The Roof (at Black + Blue)

The Roof has solidified itself as one of the top rooftop patios in the city. Located on the top of  Black & Blue on Alberni Street, the patio is designed for the “sophisticated” late night crowd and is decorated with ultra modern furnishings and open pit table fireplaces. It also boasts Vancouver’s largest rooftop patio and has a completely separate menu from downstairs.

Signature drink: Port of Call

Signature dish: The Roof is all about the fresh skewers, try the Beef Brochette ($26) or the Jerk Chicken ($22)

Joe Fortes

If you don’t know about Joe Fortes yet, you must live under a rock. The restaurant has been a Vancouver institution for over 28 years and a favourite rooftop patio for the business crowd. Joe Fortes serves a number of classic seafood dishes and a fantastic Caesar.

Signature drink: Joe’s Signature Caesar

Signature dish: Joe’s seafood tower (Atlantic lobster, chilled crab, local oysters, clams, mussels, scallop ceviche, smoked local albacore tuna, poached jumbo prawns) $59.95 per tier

Pier 7


Pier 7 located in North Van, might be a bit of a trek for some but the views from their patio are absolutely worth the trip. No other patio on this list has such a dynamic view of Vancouver and it doesn’t hurt that they specialize in fresh fish and oysters.

Signature drink: Pier Sangria (California zinfandel, apricot brandy, peach schnapps, fresh strawberries & oranges)

Signature dish: West Coast Bouillabaisse (seared prawns, scallop, mussels & fin fish, tomato coconut broth) $23

Closed over the winter months, Reflections has once again reopened, and that’s either great news or doesn’t change a thing depending on your type of crowd. Reflections has a steady flow of the well dressed, and rows of expensive luxury cars parked downstairs. One thing is for sure, with their water features, teak couches, cabanas and fire pits, Reflections aims for the posh nightlife crowd.

Signature drink: Designer “French 75” (cognac, lemon, cane syrup, veuve cliquot)

Signature dish: Moroccan spiced albacore tuna $17

You didn’t think all the patios on this list were going to be for the ‘upscale’ crowd, did you? Falconetti’s on The Drive has pretty much everything you would want for a patio: good food (homemade sausage), relaxed atmosphere and a mountain and city view all on Commercial Drive.

Signature drink: Plenty of craft beer on tap

Signature dish: Falconetti’s Famous Sausages, try the sampler $17

Lift has the perfect rooftop patio to make a good impression on a date. Gorgeous views of Stanley Park, Canada Place and the North Shore, Lift is sure to impress and remind people just how great this city is.

Signature drink: Spicy prawn caeser (skyy vodka, spicy prawn, fresh ginger, horseradish and the usual suspects)

Signature dish: Haida Gwaii Halibut (fresh halibut filet, potato gnocchi, english peas, serrano ham, micro herbs, lemon compote) $37

Darby’s patio is an unassuming bar patio with an impressive line-up of B.C. craft beers and decent food specials. It doesn’t hurt that the patio is sun-drenched most of the day and no one will give you a hard time for showing up in sandals and beach wear.

Signature dish: Library Burger (Cambozola, root beer onion jam, greens, garlic mayo, bacon) $13.95

Keg Yaletown

When The Keg first moved into Yaletown, everyone complained that a “big box” restaurant was moving in. That didn’t stop people from making the rooftop patio one of the busiest in the city. It’s now a pillar of the Yaletown scene.

Signature drink: Blackberry mule (Absolut vodka, Cassis, fresh lime juice,muddled blackberries and a splash of ginger beer)

Signature dish: Filet Classic (Wrapped in applewood smoked bacon for extra flavour) $39
