With its sunny beaches and leafy streets, Kitsilano was made for sweet patio spots – although they can be surprisingly hard to find.
To help you find the perfect surf ‘n’ turf, or maybe just a mellow margarita, here’s our rundown of some of the best patios in Kitsilano.
The Galley
The Galley, beachside at the Jericho Sailing Centre, is open till sunset every day. You’ll get a fantastic view of downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park, the North Shore Mountains, Bowen Island, and the Strait of Georgia – with a beachside menu to match.

The Local
The Local Public Eatery is an obvious choice but we had to include it. The casual beachside sports bar has a hugely popular patio across the road from Kits beach. It’s always packed, so be prepared to wait for a spot, and those fish tacos will taste even better.

Las Margaritas
This Cantina-style spot serves Mexican food and perhaps more importantly, delicious margaritas. The beach is right down the street and their corner patio on 4th and Maple is great for people watching, tequila sipping and of course, sunbaking.

The Boathouse
As you would expect, the Boathouse has a beautiful waterfront view, right on Kits beach. Spots on their second floor patio are scarce so get there early or call ahead if you want to enjoy classy seafood and fish dishes or quaff some of the best B.C. wines around.

Darbys
Darbys is a great pub, with friendly staff and the best selection of craft beer on tap in Kitsilano. It also has one of Vancouver’s largest roof top patios – a top spot to sip on a Caesar while you enjoy a Sunday brunch in the sun, all with a view of the mountains.

The Naam
The Naam Restaurant is known for its vegetarian, soy-free, gluten-free and sugar-free food – but it also has a small patio, quietly hidden away from the street. Uniquely, The Naam is also open 24 hours, seven days a week, so you can enjoy the patio at all hours.

Displace
Displace Hashery Beach Bar may not be on the beach but it does boast a south-facing patio on the corner of 4th and Blenheim, great for people watching and sunbaking. With daily food and drink specials, it’s pretty tempting to get your tan on here.

Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe
Sophie’s is known for its dining room of red booths surrounded by collectables and vintage toys. But it also has a small patio, decorated with bright green chairs, where can enjoy a hearty brunch, lunch or dinner. And if it rains? No worries – the patio is covered.

Deacon’s Corner
Deacon’s Corner’s may be better known for its original Gastown location, but its second diner in Kitsilano also offers home-style comfort food, award-winning burgers, and French fries made to order – all served on a sunny, summer patio.

Chewies
Steamed, stewed, or served nude, Chewies always has a wide range of fresh oysters on offer, from both the West and East coasts. Their Kits location, just around the corner from the Local, also has a narrow, raised patio for excellent summertime people watching.

49th Parallel
If the tipple you’re after isn’t so much cocktail as coffee, this is the covered patio for you. Situated out of the way of all the shopping traffic on 4th, you’ll find great coffee, chat and cake here, plus Lucky’s Doughnuts and a more than ample bike rack.

Rain Or Shine
Not so much a patio as a parklet, Rain Or Shine’s outdoor space on 4th Avenue is for everyone, not just those licking ice cream cones. So even if you don’t fancy some locally made, organic blueberry balsamic or coffee toffee ice cream, you can still catch some rays.
